Awami League (AL) has suspended Jamalpur's Sadhurpara UP Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu for his alleged involvement in the killing of Banglanews24.com Jamalpur district correspondent Golam Rabbani Nadim.
Bokshiganj upazila unit Awami League President Shahina Begum and General Secretary Ismail Hossain Talukdar Babul issued a letter in this regard on Friday (June 16).
According to the letter, Awami League's image has been greatly tarnished as Mahmudul Alam Babu's involvement in the incident has been strongly mentioned in the administration and various media outlets.
“As your lack of organizational activities and misconduct has garnered attention in multiple media outlets, you are being expelled from the position of general secretary of the Sadhurpara Union unit of Awami League and facing a temporary suspension from the organization due to your violation of party discipline,” the letter reads.
The letter further ordered Mahmudul Alam Babu to explain why he should not be expelled from the party in seven working days.
As of Saturday morning, there was no trace of Mahmudul Alam Babu, and his son.
Nadim was attacked on the night of June 14 in Bokshiganj and was brutally beaten by unidentified assailants.
Up to 15 people, allegedly led by UP Chairman Babu, attacked Nadimm in the Paathaati Mor area when he was returning home on a motorbike after work.
He died of a severe brain hemorrhage on Thursday morning at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
