Journo Nadim murder: Chairman Babu on 5-day remand

A Jamalpur court on Sunday (June 18) placed UP Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu, mastermind of the murder of journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim, on a five-day remand in the murder case.

Besides, two other accused of the murder -- Rezaul Karim and Moniruzzaman Monir alias Monirul -- were put on four-day remand, while another accused Zakirul Islam was placed on three-day remand. 

Jamalpur Senior Judicial Magistrate Tanvir Ahmed passed the order.

Earlier in the day, a Jamalpur court granted remand for nine accused in Journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim murder case.

The nine people are - Md. Golam Kibria Suman, 43, Md. Milon, 25, Md. Tofazzal, 40, Ainal Haque, 55, Kofil Uddin, 55, Fazlu Mia, 35, Md. Shahid, 40, Maqbool, 35, Md. Ohiduzzaman, 30.

Of the nine, five each were remanded for three days while four others remanded for four days each.

Jamalpur Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court Senior Judicial Magistrate Tanveer Ahmed granted remand.

Mahmudul Alam Babu, also general secretary of the union's Awami League in Bakshiganj upazila of Jamalpur, was detained from Deviganj Upazila in Panchagarh on Saturday (June 17) morning.

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained him from Char Tistapara of the upazila around 7 am. 

Besides, two other accused were also detained with him. 

Till now, a total of 13 people were arrested in connection to the alleged murder of Golam Rabbani Nadim.

Earlier in the day (June 17), a case was filed against Mahmudul Alam Babu, chairman of Sadhurpara Union Parishad, and 21 others over their alleged involvement in the killing of Golam Rabbani Nadim.

Nadim's wife Monira Begum filed the case with Bakshiganj Police Station this noon.

She mentioned the names of 22 individuals and 20-25 others as unknown assailants in the case, Banglanews correspondent reports.
