Fugitive death row convict nabbed from Cumilla after 20 years

A fugitive death row convict in a murder case was arrested from Cumilla after a long 20 years.

The convict Bachchu Hawladar, 45, beat his wife Jahanara to death due to dowry.

RAB-3 Commander (CO) Lt. Col. Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed confirmed the matter on Monday (June 19).

He said Bachchu was arrested last night from Chandina police station area of Cumilla in a joint operation conducted by RAB 3 and 11. 

Bachchu killed his wife after torturing her for dowry in Gosairhat police station area of Shariatpur on August 19 in 2003, he said. The case was filed in this connection the following day. 

After a long procedure, a Shariatpur court sentenced Bachchu to death in on August 1, 2018. But Bachchu went into hiding since the case was filed, RAB-3 officer said.
