Dr Sangjukta blames Central Hospital authorities for mother, baby's death

Dr Sangjukta Saha on Tuesday (June 20) said authorities of Central Hospital were responsible for the death of Mahbuba Akter Akhi and her newborn.

She made this claim in a press conference at her residence in Paribag in the capital today.

Dr Sangjukta claimed that the authorities also spoke "falsely" about her presence at the hospital.

"I was not in Bangladesh during Mahbuba's operation," she added.

She also said that to cover up the real incident and hide their faults, the vested quarters are using all means and are always busy misleading people of the country with false information.

Earlier on June 18, Mahbuba Rahman Akhi, a first-time mother, who lost her baby due to the alleged negligence of doctors at Dhaka's Central Hospital, passed away while undergoing treatment at the nearby Labaid hospital.

Akhi, a student of Eden College, breathed her last at the hospital around 12:45 pm, according to her husband, Yakub Ali Sumon.

Earlier, she went to Central Hospital with hopes of having a normal delivery after watching a video posted on social media by Dr Sangjukta.

She was admitted on June 9 under the supervision of Dr Sangjukta for the delivery, but the doctor was abroad at the time.

Akhi had to undergo surgery due to complications related to childbirth, while the hospital authorities lied about the absence of Dr Sangjukta, Akhi’s family said. Her baby died a day later.

Later, Yakub Ali complained of “wrong treatment” and “deception” by the authorities at Central Hospital on June 14.

He also claimed that their newborn child died due to the negligence of the hospital authorities.
