Election Commissioner Begum Rashida Sultana Wednesday (June 21) said around 40 percent of votes would be cast as in Sylhet City Corporation elections and Rajshahi City Corporation elections as voting has been peaceful and the law and order situation is also good.
She also said that 20 percent of votes were cast as half of the election time passed.
Rashida Sultana made the expectation while talking to the reporters at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka on Wednesday.
She claimed that law enforcement agencies are performing their duties well and there is no report of any irregularities.
Rashida Sultana also said there were no problems with EVMs. There was a problem at one place in Rajshahi, but it was fixed.
The chief election commissioner and other commissioners are also monitoring the polls through CCTV cameras from Nirbachan Bhaban.
The voting started at 8 am and it will continue till 4 pm without any break.
For the first time in RCC's 36-year history, elections are being held in Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in all the 155 centres.
This year, 3,52,157 voters are expected to vote in RCC polls. Among them, 1,71,185 are male voters, while 1,80,972 are female.
A total of 30,157 new voters were listed for the first time.
Besides, 273 aspirants are contesting for councillor posts in 42 general wards and 87 candidates for councillor posts in 14 reserved councillor posts for women in the SCC polls.
A total of 4,87,753 voters are expected to vote at the SCC polls.
