Central Hospital doctors denied bail

A Dhaka court on Wednesday (June 21) rejected the bail plea of two doctors who were arrested in a case filed over the death of a mother and her newborn due to wrong treatment at Central Hospital in the capital.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Dhaka Mohammad Asaduzzaman Noor rejecting the bail petition of Dr Muna Saha and Dr Shahjadi passed the order.

Dhanmondi Police Station's general registration officer at the CMM Court Mahfuzul Islam confirmed the matter.

On June 9 last, patient Mahbuba Rahman Ankhi got admitted to the Central Hospital under Professor Dr Sangjukta Saha of Gynaecology department. But, Dr Sangjukta Saha was absent from the hospital. Then her two assistants tried to conduct delivery of Ankhi, but the newborn was shifted to the NICU as comlications had arisen. At the same time, Ankhi was shifted to LabAid Hospital after her condition was deteriorated. Later in the afternoon of June 10, Ankhi's newborn died.

Then Ankhi's husband Yaqub Ali Sumon filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station in connection with the incident.
