Coal arrives, 'Payra power plant' to resume by June 25

An Indonesian ship carrying 41,207 metric tonnes of coal arrived at Payra Port on Friday (23 June).

The vessel MV Athena brought the first shipment and is scheduled to unload the coal by 3pm.

Azizur Rahman, Deputy Director of Payra Port Traffic Department, confirmed the matter.

He said it will take another two/three days to clear this coal. As such, Payra, the country's largest power plant, is going to resume from June 25 or 26.

Four more coal-laden ships will arrive at Payra in the first week of July, according to plant officials.

Earlier, the first production of a unit of the power plant was halted on May 25 as the companies involved stopped supplying coal. Another unit's production continued until June 5 which was also shut down due to coal shortage.
