A Bangladeshi cowherd was allegedly shot by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Kalsirmukh Deyarhat border area of Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat early Wednesday (June 28).
The injured was Alamgir Hossain, 35, a resident of Paschim Jagatber Kashirdanga village of the upazila.
According to locals, the incident took place around dawn when eight to ten men were allegedly smuggling cattle into Bangladesh territory from India's Kuchlibari Adibashi Para village, about 100 yards away from the border.
All of a sudden, BSF-40 Battalion personnel, who were patrolling the area, opened fire at the smugglers. He said that a Bangladeshi cattle smuggler sustained bullet injury in BSF firing, said locals.
Associates of Alamgir rescued him and admitted him to a Rangpur clinic with a bullet wound in his leg, said Manik Hossain, member of Ward No. 6 of Jagatber Union Parishad.
