Rajshahi fire burns woman to death, two sons injured

A woman was killed and her two sons injured in a fire that broke out at their home in Bagmara upazila early Friday (June 30).

The deceased were identified as Farida Yeasmin, 42, wife of Ezazul Basher, a teacher of Shibpur Girls High School under Durgapur upazila.

The injured are-- two sons of the deceased, Dr Rashidul Basher and Dr Shafiul Basher, who completed MBBS recently.

According to locals, the fire might have originated from the kitchen oven and engulfed the house while they were asleep in the night at Madariganj locality under Bagmara upazila of the district. The woman died on the spot.

The injured Rashidul and Shafiul were rushed to the burn unit at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). Later, they were shifted to Dhaka Burn Hospital in the morning as their health conditions deteriorated. RMCH sources said 45 percent of their bodies were burnt.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagmara Police Station in Rajshahi is Aminul Islam confirmed the matter.
