Bashundhara Group supports insolvent women in materialising dreams

Shuvosangho sewing training centre is operating in Mistripara village in Dinajpur sadar upazila and Katla village in Birampur upazila.

Bashundhara Group extends financial support for the training to make insolvent women economically viable.

Shuvosangho, a social organisation of Bashundhara Group’s vernacular daily Kaler Kantho, is running the training centres in various parts of the country.

A number of 30 widows, divorcees and female students have received training from two centres in Dinajpur so far.

Successful trainees were presented with sewing machines to be able to take up tailing professionally and earn money.

Apart from imparting training, Shuvosangho is bringing the insolvent, distressed and helpless women to income stream by cattle and poultry farming.

The social organisation is imparting training on tailoring, block and batik to the poor women.

There is a section of people who are always shy to share their poverty with anybody and struggle to survive. Bashundhara has stood beside them in earning livelihood alongside educating poor and disadvantaged children.

Shuvosangho schools are aimed at integrating such children into the mainstream society.
The above statements were made by famed litterateur Imdadul Haq Milan, also the Editor of the daily Kaler Kantho, while distributing sewing machines among 15 training recipient women at Khodmadhappur in Mistripara of Dinajpur town on July 25, 2023.

Two days ago, the sewing machines were distributed among 15 others in Birampur.

Apart from Imdadul Haq Milan, lawmaker from Dinajpur-1 constituency Manoranjan Shill Gopal attended the sewing distribution in Dinajpur sadar while local municipality mayor Md Akkas Ali in Birampur.

Speaking on the occasion, Manoranjan Shill Gopal termed imparting training and distributing sewing machines are noble initiatives of the Bashundhara Group.

 “Great men go down in the history for their works. Bashundhara Group is making precedence of noble works through Shuvosangho. During Covid-19 pandemic, the largest business conglomerate extended food supports to 50,000 ultra-poor in northern region for a month.”

Hailing literacy programme, he said Shuvosangho is promoting education of disadvantaged children and dropouts by establishing schools. Women are being trained and taken to income channel so that they can support their families and educate children, he added.

He also called upon Bashundhara Group to construct industries in the northern region to solve unemployment.

Chadni Akter, a student of Dinajpur Govt Women's College and recipient of sewing machines, said her father Md Anis suffered a stroke seven months ago and is unable to work.

She said treatment of father is not possible with little income of her mother and brother who are household and furniture shop staffs.

Alongside continuing study, she wants to support her family by earning money.

 “The sewing machine will enable me to earn money, continue study and buy medicine for my father. It will pave the way for changing my future,” she opined.

Rupali, Sweety, Dewara, Minara and Sumi were among 30 women to have received training and sewing machines. Their joys of getting sewing machines knew no bounds. They prayed for welfare of Bashundhara Group owner for his nobility.

Imdadul Haq Milan said the recipients of sewing machines will be able to earn money and reduce poverty of their families.

“We have established 15/16 training centres so far. Besides, we are out to set up 100 schools across the country. The model of school is ready. We are looking for government’s lands. Otherwise, we will buy lands and construct buildings. Every school will be followed by women training centre and library.”

About other academic supports, he said “We provide 3,000 insolvent students with stipends ranging from Tk 1,000 to Tk 10,000 per month. The whole credit goes to Hon’ble Chairman of Bashundhara Group Ahmed Akbar Sobhan. Please pray for him and his family members,” he said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has gone a long way towards implementing Sonar Bangla as envisaged by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Despite small area, Bangladesh is hard hit by over-population, he said adding “It will take some more time to send solvency to the doorsteps of all. Bashundhara Group has joined hands with the government in this regard.”

Bashundhara Group loves the people of the country and would like to offer them beautiful lives. It is going ahead with social welfare programmes.

Dinajpur panel mayor Abu Tayeb Ali Dulal, Dinajpur Journalist Association president Md Wahedul Alam Artist, and Shuvosangho director Zakaria Zaman, among others, were present.
