Bashundhara Group has generated hundreds of women entrepreneurs like Irene Akter in Dinajpur sadar upazila providing sewing machines after training.

Irene Akter Ripa is the daughter of Ainul Haque of Mistripara village of Dinajpur sadar upazila. She is a student of honors first-year at Dinajpur Government College.

Her father is a retired employee who was the only breadwinner of the family. Ripa has dreamed to become an entrepreneur since childhood. But due to financial problems, it was impossible to meet three meals a day and the medical expenses of the parents. It was a futile exercise for her to dream about becoming an entrepreneur. Bashundhara Group has reached out to poor women like Ripa and set up a sewing training centre in Dinajpur to empower underprivileged women.

Ripa was enrolled in the training center. Sewing training started the journey with fifteen trainees who mastered various techniques of sewing, women's clothes, block and batik.

Learning sewing, trainees need sewing machines to work professionally. Recently, Bashundhara Group gave a sewing machine to each of the trainees.

After getting one machine, Ripa said, “I got sewing training and sewing machine under the patronage of Bashundhara Group. With this support, I will be self-reliant.”

Ripa believes that the machine will help her earn bread by sewing clothes.

“I will afford the treatment and medicines of my parents alongside education expenses. In addition to being self-reliant, I will create employment for poor women and unemployed people in the village through various trainings including sewing,” she said.
