ARSA commander killed in ‘gunfight’ at Rohingya camp: APBn

A leader of the Rohingya insurgent group Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) was shot dead in a gunfight with Armed Police Battalion (APBn) personnel in a Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar, on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was Hussein Majhi, a commander of ARSA.

The incident occurred at 5 am on Monday at Camp-17, said Syed Harun-ur Rashid, Additional Deputy Inspector General (ADIG) of APBN-14.

He said the APBN surrounded the nearby area of camp-17 on Monday morning. At that time, ARSA men opened fire at the police and APBN men fired back.

Hussein Majhi was found lying on the ground after the “gunfight”, he also said.

The deceased was also an accused in several murder cases, Syed Harun-ur Rashid added.
