Three people drowned as a bulkhead sank in the Arial Khan River at Shibchar upazila of Madaripur on Monday (July 10).

The accident happened at around 4.30pm in Char-Kamarkandi area under Nikhli union of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Alauddin, 45, Isa, 22, son of Afzal Hossain, from Narail's Lohagara upazila, and Ekramul, 21, son of Fazlur Rahman, from Rangpur's Kaunia upazila.

Kalatal River Police outpost in-charge Md Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter.

The bulkhead was returning to the bank of the river after finishing digging sand from the river. Later, the bulkhead capsized due to strong wave. After that, three missing workers found dead, He added.
