The European Union (EU) Mission head Riccardo Chelleri said that after assessing the pre-election situation, they will decide whether to send observers to the 12th National Parliament elections of Bangladesh.

He said this to reporters after an hour-long meeting with the Election Commission on Tuesday (July 11).

Cheleri Ricardo said: "We have come for a two-week visit at the invitation of the Bangladesh government. We will monitor the pre-election situation and send a report to our higher authorities. Based on that, it will be decided whether or not the European Union will send observers to the next election."

During the meeting, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal replied to different queries from the delegations.

The visiting EU election exploratory mission also enquired about the EC's preparations for the next parliamentary polls.

The EU delegation team consisting of five members held the meeting with EC for about one hour today.
