Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a convict on Thursday who was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a five-year-old child.

RAB arrested Asadul Islam after raiding Madhavpur Bazar area under Kashimpur police station in Gazipur yesterday afternoon

According to the case statement, the arrestee went into hiding after the victim's father filed a rape case with Darus Salam police station. Later, a Dhaka court sentenced Asadul to life imprisonment with Tk 1 lakh fine in his absence and also issued an arrest warrant against him. 

RAB-2 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shihab Karim confirmed the matter to Banglanews on Friday (July 14).

He said on May 4, 2018, Asadul took a five-year-old child to his room saying he will show cartoons on his phone. Later, he raped her in the capital's Darus Salam area. At that time, hearing the cry of the child, her mother came to Asadul's room. After that, the accused ran away.

Asadul has been handed over to Darus Salam police station and action will be taken, he added.
