DHAKA: The deep depression over southwest bay and adjoining area moved northward, intensified into a cyclonic storm ‘Madi’ (with estimated central pressure 996 hpa) over the same area.

It was centred at 12 pm Saturday (December 07, 2013) about 1560 kms southwest of chittagong port, 1490 kms southwest of cox’s bazar port and 1445 kms south-southwest of mongla port (near lat 10.60 n and long 84.00 e), the met office said.

It is likely to intensify further and move in a northerly direction.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 kms of the storm centre is about 70 kph rising to 90 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain very rough near the storm centre.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s bazar and Mongla have been advised to hoist distant warning signal number two.

All fishing boats and trawlers over deep sea have been advised to remain close to North Bay and proceed with caution till further notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
