EU team meets top newspaper editors in Dhaka

The visiting delegation of the European Union (EU) has met with editors of prominent newspapers in the capital today (July 17).

During an hour-long meeting at the EU's Gulshan 2 office, journalists expressed their concern over the Digital Security Act (DSA).

Daily Observer Editor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, New Age Editor Nurul Kabir, The Business Standard Editor Inam Ahmed, and Head of Prothom Alo's English Web Ayesha Kabir were present in the meeting.

After the meeting, Daily Observer editor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury told reporters: "We said we appreciate them coming over to ensure a fair election in Bangladesh. It is also sad because we never need to go to Brussels to ensure a fair election."

"This is our fight, and we have to do it ourselves," Nurul Kabir said.

Members from the European Union (EU) began their activities in Bangladesh to assess the situation on the ground ahead of the country's upcoming national election.

However, the members of the delegation will stay in Dhaka till July 23.
