Police detained seven persons so far for their alleged involvement in attacking Dhaka-17 by-election candidate Ashraful Alom, popularly known as Hero Alom, on Monday (July 17).
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) chief Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid confirmed the matter.
DB chief disclosed the information at a press briefing on Tuesday (July 18).
However, no case has been filed in this incident so far. Police are waiting for Hero Alom's complaint in this regard.
Earlier on Monday, Hero Alom was physically assaulted while leaving a polling centre in Dhaka’s Banani area.
Mohammad Elias, chief election agent of Hero Alom, said the candidate was taken to a hospital in Rampura around 5:30 pm.
Awami League nominated candidate contesting the Dhaka-17 by-election, Mohammad Ali Arafat, has condemned the attack on his rival candidate.
Besides, Election Commissioner Mohammad Alamgir said action will be taken against those involved in the incident.
