A Bangladeshi student was shot dead by miscreants in the Missouri state of United States of America (USA) early Wednesday.
The incident took place at 3:30am (Bangladesh time) and it is believed that the motive behind the crime was to rob the victim's car and cash.
The deceased was identified as Yeaz Uddin Ahmed Romim, 22, originally from the Mirsarai upazila in Chattogram district. Romim was the son of the late freedom fighter Samshuddin Ahmed.
Riyaz Uddin Ahmed, elder brother of Romim, told daily sun that Romim moved to the United States in 2016 with his aunt. He was studying Computer Science at a local college and simultaneously working at a gas station.
“Local criminals shot and killed my brother. From what we have learned, the perpetrators targeted him for his car and money,” he added.
Riyaz Uddin Ahmed further said that a case has been filed with the US police regarding the incident.
“The body was not handed over yet. The decision to bring the body back home will be made once the body is handed over after the autopsy,” he said.
He also said that “We have heard that police will hand over the body Friday. After that two Namaz e Janaza will be held in Chicago and Missouri.”
Bangladeshi journalist Mohammad Manjurul Haq, who resides in the United States, said that Romim was working at the gas station when a group of miscreants tried to break into his parked car.
When Romim intervened, a gunman targeted him and fired. He was later taken to the hospital by the police, where he was declared dead, he said.
The police are currently looking for a 19-year-old suspect named Jatavian Scott in connection with the incident, he added.
