A Dinajpur court today (July 24) sentenced a man to death for killing his wife at Madhavpur Chirakutipara village under Sadar upazila of the district in 2017.

Judge of District and Sessions Judge Court Md Jabid Hossain pronounced the verdict this afternoon. 

The court also fined him Taka 20,000.

The death convict is - Prabhat Chandra Roy, 35, son of Lalu Chandra Roy, resident of Madhavpur Chirakutipara village of the upazila.

According to the details of the case on December 28 in 2017, accused Prabhat brutally beat his wife Babita Rani. Victim Babita, mother of two children, her daughter Srabani Rani and son Aditya prepared to go to his brother's house. At that time, Prabhat hit his wife Babita numerous times with a knife. At one point, he strangled Babita and killed her.

Rabindranath, elder brother of the victim, filed a murder case against Prabhat with Dinajpur Kotwali Police station as the plaintiff.

Police submitted a charge sheet against the accused in this case.

After examining the record and witnesses, the court found him guilty. 

Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Md Rabiul Islam Rabi confirmed the matter.
