DSA amendment will satisfy journos, hopes Law minister

Law minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday (July 25) said journalists will hopefully be satisfied with the amendments to the Digital Security Act (DSA).

Anisul Huq said the proposal for amendment of DSA will be placed and passed in the parliament in September.

The minister was talking to reporters after a meeting with the European Union's Special Representative for Human Rights Eamon Gilmore at the Ministry of Law in the capital this afternoon.

He said that Gilmore's visit to Dhaka strengthened the EU-Bangladesh bilateral relationship.

When asked about the meeting with EU delegates, Anisul said, "We talked about the Digital Security Law. I informed them that we decided to amend the law. This amendment is expected to be raised in the National Parliament and enacted by September this year."

In response to a question about what kinds of changes are being made to the Digital Security Act, the Minister said, "You'll have to wait a little longer for that. I believe your suggestion is important for the government. All I can say is that the revised law will satisfy everyone."

Besides, Eamon Gilmore said, "We talked about Digital Security Act. The Law Minister has told me that actions are being taken to amend this Act as soon as possible. We are waiting for the law to be modified. Later, we will thoroughly study the law once it is enacted."
