Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Sunday (July 30) said the schedule for the 12th parliamentary election will not be announced before the last week of October this year.

He made the remark while talking to journalists at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon this afternoon.

The next national polls would be held in the last week of December this year, or in the first week of January 2024, the CEC said.

According to the constitution, if the next national election is to be held with the current parliament in place, it will be within the previous 90 days starting January 29, 2024. That is, the countdown to the 12th national election will start on November 1 this year.
