US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas today (August 1) said his country will send a monitoring team in early October to assess the pre-polls situation ahead of Bangladesh's parliamentary elections.
The US envoy also said the pre-election monitoring team will consist of experts from National Democratic Institute who have vast experience in poll monitoring.
He was speaking to reporters following his meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KaziHabibul Awal.
The US is only interested in the election which is free, fair, peaceful and people of Bangladesh have the capability to choose who governed them, Haas added.
The 12th national elections are likely to be held late December this year or early January next year.
