The United Nations has encouraged "peaceful, credible, and inclusive" elections in Bangladesh.

"Regarding the elections, the United Nations encourages peaceful, credible, and inclusive elections in Bangladesh," said Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq in a media briefing at the UN Headquarters on July 31. 

Regarding the Rohingya issue, Farhan Haq said, the United Nations appreciates the generosity shown by the government and people of Bangladesh towards the refugees.

"And we hope that continues," he added. 

"It's not for me to comment on membership in the Human Rights Council, which is a decision taken by member states," Farhan Haq added.
