Thirty-two students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) arrested during a trip to Sunamganj's Tanguar Haor on July 30 were granted bail today (August 2).

Judge Farhan Sadik of Judicial Magistrate Court-4 in Sunamganj passed the order.

On August 1, a Sunamganj court sent 34 students to jail in a case filed against 36 persons including of BUET on charges of engaging in terrorist activities in disguise of visitors at Tanguar Haor.

Earlier on July 30, a team of Tahirpur police picked them while they were on way to the haor from Dhaka.

Later on July 31, police filed a case against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act on charges of planning a "secret conspiracy" against the government.

However, in a press conference on BUET campus in this regard on Tuesday, the guardians of the students protested the move, saying the law enforcers implicated them in a false case to harass them.

Taibur Rahman Babul, the lawyer of the accused, today said a Sunamganj court granted bail to 32 people.

As the two others are minors, their bail hearing will be held in Juvenile Court later in the day, Taibur Rahman said.
