A court in Dhaka has sentenced Redwan Ahmed, former state minister during BNP’s tenure, to three years in jail for embezzling money of Tk 5 crore.
Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Judge Court-2 of Dhaka handed down the sentence in his absence, said ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam.
Redwan Ahmed, who is currently the secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), was also fined Tk 50 lakh in the case.
The court issued an arrest warrant considering Redwan Ahmed as an absconding convict.
Earlier, the prosecution and defence completed their arguments and the court recorded statements of 10 prosecution witnesses, including complainant of the case.
