Maheshpur-58 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 17 gold bars weighing 5 kg from Chuadanga's Jibonnagar Upazila on Monday (August 22).
BGB recovered the gold bars from Jibon Nagar Patila Eidgah area at 5pm.
Lieutenant Colonel Masud Parvez Rana, director of Maheshpur-58 BGB, confirmed the matter during a press conference last night.
According to BGB officer Masud Rana, a special team of BGB took position at Patila Eidgah area after receiving information that gold would be smuggled into India via Jibon Nagar Patila border.
Later, BGB men noticed an unidentified man at 5 pm was moving toward the border area. Suddenly that man fled the site when he sensed the presence of BGB, he said.
Meanwhile, the BGB team recovered the gold bars, which have a market worth of Tk 4.75 crore, according to a BGB officer.
A case has been registered at Jeevannagar police station against the unidentified person and the gold bars have been deposited at the Chuadanga Treasury office, he added.
