Three constables were killed and three others injured after a train hit a police van in Sitakunda upazilla of Chattogram on Sunday (August 27).

The deceased Mizan, Iskandar, and Hossain were police constable of Sitakunda police station under the district police.

The injured were identified as Sitakunda Police Station Sub Inspector (SI) Sujan Sharma, driver constable Sameer Das and local member Shahadat Hossain.

The accident took place at Fakirhat Level Crossing in Solimpur union around 12:30pm.

According to locals, the Sonar Bangla Chattogram bound train from Dhaka was crossing Salimpur-Fakirhat railway crossing. When the police van went on the railway track, the speeding train rammed the van, leaving three cops dead on the spot.

Chattogram Medical College Police Outpost In-charge Nurul Alam Ashek, confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Three injured have been admitted to different wards of the hospital, he added.
