The authorities concerned at Barapukuria Coal Mine Company Limited (BCMCL) suspended mining activities as the coal stock for the 1,113 phase ran out.
BCMCL Managing Director Saiful Islam confirmed the matter.
He said they suspended the coal extraction around 6 pm on Wednesday due to a shortage of coal.
Around 0.37 million tonnes (3.75000 tonnes) of coal had been extracted from the phase, while the target was set 0.32 million tonnes, the BCMCL MD said.
Now they are preparing to set up the equipment at the new phase from the 1,103 phase. And the coal extraction would start within two months.
The pause in coal extraction would not affect power generation at the adjacent coal-fired power plant as the plant has enough reserves, Saiful Islam added.
