A female student was found dead about 20 hours after she had gone missing on Tuesday afternoon in the River Kocha in Wazirpur upazila of Barishal.

The deceased was identified as Nishat Tasneem Tanha. She passed her SSC from Motijheel Ideal School and College this year securing GAP 5. She was the daughter of Kamrul Hasan Mollah, a businessman in Dhaka and a resident of Wazirpur upazila.

Wazirpur Fire Service and Civil Defence team leader Md Kolimullah confirmed the matter.

He said local people of Kalir Bazar under Banaripara upazila found the girl's floating body in the River Shondha around 10am on Wednesday and informed police. Police informed the matter to the victim's family. 

On Tuesday afternoon, Tanha went out with her younger brother for bathing in the Kocha river near their house. Suddenly, her legs slipped and she drowned, he said.

The body was handed over to the family without autopsy as per their request, Wazirpur police said.
