Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members arrested three people along with four pieces of gold bars weighing 2.940 kg and a private car from Benapole border on Wednesday (August 30).
They were arrested from Daulatpur area under Benapole Port police station in the afternoon.
The arrestees were identified as Saidur Rahman Majed, 33, son of Mohiuddin of Jhenaidah, Saiful Islam, 36, son of Nasir Ali of Jessore and Masud Chowdhury Babu, 31, son of Rezaul Chowdhury of Sharsha village.
Khulna-21 BGB Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Tanveer confirmed the matter.
He said tipped off, a big amount of gold will be smuggled into India through the Daulatpur sector of the Benapole border.
Later, a suspicious white private car was stopped. Four gold bars were discovered after checking the bodies of the passengers sitting on the car at the time. They were later arrested, he said.
The market value of the recovered gold bar is Tk 2.65 crore, the official said, adding the arrestees has been handed over to Benapole police.
