Two people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto rickshaw and a covered van on the Chunarughat-Shaistaganj road in Durgapur area under Chunarughat upazila of the district today.

The deceased were identified as CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Jamal Miah, 32, son of Rafiq Miah, resident of Jacinta village of the upazila and Farid Miah, 45, son of Kacham Ali, resident of Madhabpur village of the upazila.

The accident occurred as a CNG-run auto rickshaw from Chunarughat collided head-on with a covered van coming from Shaistaganj around 6am, leaving passenger Farid Miah dead on the spot and three others injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chunarughat Police Station Rashed Ahmed said.

The injured were taken to Habiganj 250-bed Habiganj Modern Sadar Hospital. CNG driver Jamal Mia died on the way to Sylhet in critical condition.

Police seized the two vehicles from the spot, he said.

The bodies have been kept at Chunarughat Upazila Health Complex, the OC added.
