Hizb-ut-Tahrir top leader arrested in capital

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Sunday (Sep 3) arrested a top leader of banned militant organisation Hizb-ut-Tahrir from the capital's Mohammadpur.

The arrestee Abdul Baten, 60, was a fugitive accused in four cases.

RAB-2 Assistant Director (Media) ASP Shihab Karim confirmed the matter this morning.

He said Baten is an active member of dawati and finance department of Hizb-ut-Tahrir. He was engaged in promoting militant books in different parts of the country including Dhaka, and encouraging the youth to join militancy.

The RAB official also said that legal proceedings have been taken against the accused.
