Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two people along with 31 gold bars weighing 7.358 kg from Satkhira border on Wednesday (September 6) morning.
The arrestee Md. Tuhun, 20, and Shojib Hosen, 22, were trying to smuggle the gold bars into India.
A team of Baikari BOP arrested them from Sardar Para area of Baikari border of Satkhira Sadar Upazila.
BGB Satkhira 33 battalion captain Lt. Colonel Md. Ashraful Haque confirmed the matter.
He said tipped off, that two persons would carry gold and smuggle it into India through border’s pillar number 7/48-S.
Later, accordingly, a BGB team took position and arrested the two people. The market value of the recovered gold is Tk 6.31 crore, he said.
The accused were handed over to the Satkhira police station, he said, adding the gold bars were deposited at the Satkhira Treasury Office.
