DHAKA: President Abdul Hamid Advocate, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and leader of the opposition BNP Khaleda Zia issued messages on the eve of the Victory Day urging people to work  unitedly to build a democratic and prosperous Bangladesh with the spirit of Liberation War.

President Abdul Hamid Advocate in his message extended his sincere felicitations and congratulations to countrymen living at home and abroad.

Abdul Hamid said, “In the victory day I remember all freedoms fighters including our great leader Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who announced independence on Mar 26, 1971. I also commemorate nation four leaders and all pro-liberation people who sacrificed their lives. We are grateful to them.”

The president urged countrymen to work together for better progress of the country.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her message said, "Today is the Great Victory Day. This is the day of greatest pride of the Bangalee nation. Responding to the clarion call of the greatest Bangalee of all time, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Bangalee nation fought a none-month long solemnly-vowed war against the Pakistani occupation forces and earned the ultimate victory on the 16th December in 1971.”

The premier extended her sincere greetings and warm felicitations to the citizens of Bangladesh at home and abroad in this occasion paid deepest respect to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with homage to the three million martyrs, who sacrificed their lives and two hundred thousand women, who lost their innocence for the cause of our independence.

“On this day, the Nation ultimately earned an independent country, own national flag and national anthem. The heroism and patriotism of the Bangalee nation created a new history in the world,” said Sheikh Hasina.

Opposition Chairperson Khaleda Zia in her message said, “To grasp our independence and sovereignty, an occupation force is trying to control the nation.”

She added: “We have to build a national unity to get relieve from the evil forces by the spirit of Liberation War.”
