SYLHET: A speedy trial tribunal on Thursday sentenced lifetime imprisonment to nine people for their involvement in the murder of two students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).  

The court also fined Tk 20,000 to each of the convicted.

Judge Dilip Kumar Debnath of speedy trial tribunal of Sylhet Division passed the judgment Thursday noon.

Of the convicted, Rakib Mia was fugitive and others were released on bail.

On December 16, 2011, Dipankar Ghosh Anik and Khairul Kabir went on a boat trip along with some of their friends.

A few local goons beat Anik and Khairul black and blue as they protested eve teasing, leaving them critically injured. They died later.

A case was filed in this connection.
