The Daily Sun, a venture of the country’s leading industrial conglomerate Bashundhara Group celebrating its 13th anniversary today (October 24).
A colourful programme is being organised to mark the founding anniversary of the newspaper at the compound of the East West Media Group Ltd (EWMGL), in the capital.
A representative team of banglanews24.com, country’s leading online news portal of the country led by Jewel Mazhar, greeted Daily Sun Editor Md Rezaul Karim with a bouquet of flowers.

Besides, on the occasion President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have sent separate messages congratulating the Daily Sun family, including its management, journalists, employees, and readers, on its birthday. They expressed hope that the newspaper will continue to thrive and work diligently in future upholding the spirit of the Liberation War.
East West Media Group Limited’s (EWMGL) Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir also issued messages, expressing their satisfaction over the fact that the Daily Sun has emerged a s trusted source of news and made a good place among its competitors by addressing the demands of the readers, and continued to thrive weathering myriad challenges, including change in readership patters and fierce competition for revenue.
In his message, President Mohammed Shahabuddin writes, “The Daily Sun is one of the top circulating English newspapers in the country and is going to complete thirteen years of its journey. I hope that the Daily Sun will continue its advancement and work diligently in future keeping national interest at the top.”
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has outlined a range of initiatives implemented by her government over the past 15 years, paving the way for the growth and well-being of various forms of media, including radio, television, print, and online. She noted achievements such as the enactment of the Right to Information Act in 2009, the establishment of the Information Commission, the formulation of the National Broadcast Policy of 2014, the National Online Mass Media Policy of 2017, and the establishment of the Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust.
“As a result of our many positive steps, the media sector enjoys complete freedom at their work,” said the premier, adding, “I hope that the Daily Sun will continue to publish objective news and will showcase the diverse culture, history, traditions, and comparative development of the country to the public arena. I also expect the newspaper will uphold the spirit of the great liberation war by defacing all anti-state activities.”
EWMG Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir, and Daily Sun Editor Md Rezaul Karim expressed their hope that the newspaper’s readers, patrons, and well-wishers will continue to stand by the Daily Sun in the days to come.
