Man gets life term for killing wife in Bagerhat

A Bagerhat court sentenced a man to life imprisonment for demanding dowry and beating his wife to death in Bagerhat.

The accused Enamul Haque Hawladar, 45, was also fined Tk 50 thousand, if not paid court also ordered another six months to jail.

Bagerhat Women and Children Suppression Tribunal Court-2 Judge District and Sessions Judge Md. Moin Uddin passed the order this afternoon, in the absence of the accused.

According to case statement, on the afternoon of October 26, 2017, Enamul beat his wife Helena Begum to death at her home in Ratia Rajapur village for dowry. Later, the victim's brother Abdus Salam of Chhailabunia village of the same upazila filed a murder case against Enamul and seven others as defendants.

After investigating the case, on March 2, 2018, the then Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sharankhola police station, Abul Bashar Khalifa filed a charge sheet against two people including Enamul Haque.

After a long hearing of the case and taking the testimony of four witnesses, the court passed the verdict on Sunday as the murder charges were proved.

However, convict Enamul Haque Howlader has been absconding for a long time.
