A total of 15 women were appointed as 'firefighters' for the first time in the history of the fire service.
They joined the Fire Service and Civil Defence Multipurpose Training Complex at Purbachal in Narayanganj on November 18, according to the appointment letter.
After joining, they were shifted to the Mirpur Training Complex.
Director General (DG) of the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence (DFSCD) Brigadier General Md. Main Uddin welcomed the newly appointed firefighters at Mirpur Training Complex today (19 November).
The young firefighters participated in a photo session with the DG. Two directors of the DFSCD, along with the principal and vice principal of the training complex, were present on the occasion.
The recruitment notification for appointing firefighters was published on 20 June, this year.
According to the notification, 15 out of 2,707 applicants for the post of Firefighter (Female) were selected finally after preliminary verification, physical and medical examinations, written tests, and viva voce.
In the past, women officers have joined the fire service as officers, but no woman has ever been appointed to the post of firefighter.
