DHAKA: At least 55 shops were gutted, which damaged properties worth about Tk 80 lakhs, in Barisal and Patuakhali districts on Sunday night.

In Barisal, 40 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Saheber Hat area under Agailjhara Upazila in the district on Sunday night.

Sources said fire originated from an electric short circuit of a shop at around 10:00pm and spread out to adjacent area instantly and gutted properties worth about Tk 50 lakhs.

Confirming the matter Agailjhara Thana Officer-in-Charge Sazzad Hossain told banglanews, “Fire service men doused the fire with the help of local people after one hour efforts.”

On the other hand, 15 shops were gutted at Bablatala Bazar under Kalapara Upazila in Patuakhali district on Sunday night.

Witnesses said the fire originated from a tea stall of the bazaar at around 09:30pm, damaging properties worth about Tk 30 lakhs.

Kalapara Thana Officer-in-Charge Tarikuzzaman Confirmed the matter to banglanews.
