DHAKA: Bangladesh Bank (BB) has directed all scheduled banks to keep open on January 3 and 4 (Friday and Saturday) after receiving request by the election commission.
In this regard, the central bank issued a notification signed by DGM Ashim Kumar Majumder from its off-site supervision department on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, the Election Commission (EC) asked the government to remain open the scheduled banks.
In this regard, the election commission sent a letter signed by senior assistant secretary of EC secretariat M Farhad Hossain to the Finance Ministry on Wednesday.
The election commission took the initiative so that the payment of polling officers and law enforcement agencies can be given, he said in the letter.
The 10th parliamentary election is scheduled to be held on January 5.
