Polls to be unaffected by blockade

DHAKA: Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed on Thursday categorically said blockade would have no effect on the upcoming national election.

He came up with the assertion to the journalists after a meeting with President M Abdul Hamid at the Bongobhaban at around 4:30pm.

Mentioning that they have informed the President about the activities of the Election Commission CEC also said, “We have informed the President about army deployment in the country on December 26 and their activities, using magistrates and the directions of Returning Officers. He listened to everything and said he will provide all possible assistance to us.”

He also said: “We have requested the President to give order to the law-enforcement agencies to be more active.”

In response to a question about whether there would be any problem as the opposition boycotted the election, Kazi Rakib Uddin said that there won’t be any problem for the blockade.

He also claimed development of law and order situation of the country before the general election.
