Two among three accused in the case of allegedly raping a woman on the Jahangirnagar University campus in Savar gave statements before a judicial magistrate court in the capital regarding their involvement in the crime on Friday (February 9).
The two accused are the associates of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), who is also another accused in the case.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mizanur Rahman of Ashulia police station appealed for recording confessional statement in this case. In view of that plea, Magistrate Mujahidul Islam ordered to record their statements and send Mamunur Rashid Mamun, and his associate, Md Murad Hossain Murad to jail.
Earlier, members of the Rapid Action Battalion arrested Mamun at Farmgate in the capital, while Murad was arrested at a location in Noagaon on Wednesday.
The other four accused, BCL leader Mustafizur Rahman and his associates Hasanuzzaman, Sagor Siddiqui, and Sabbir Hossen, were sent to jail on Thursday on completion of their three-day remand in the case.
On the night of February 3, BCL university unit international affairs secretary and former JU student Mustafizur Rahman and his associate Mamunur Rashid allegedly raped a woman tying up her husband in a room of one of the university’s dormitories.
The rape survivor’s husband lodged a case with the Ashulia police on the night of February 3, naming six people, based on which the police on February 4 arrested four accused, including Mustafizur Rahman.
