A Dhaka court on Wednesday (March 13) sentenced two people to life imprisonment in the case filed over the murder of Sagira Morshed 34 years ago.
Judge Mohammad Ali Hussain of the Special Judge's Court-3 of Dhaka delivered the verdict today.
The two convicts are Anas Mahmud alias Rezwan and hired killer Maruf Reza.
The court fined the duo Tk 50,000, in default of which they would have to serve six more months in jail.
Besides, the court also acquitted Sagira Morshed's brother-in-law Hasan Ali Chowdhury, his wife Sayedatul Mahmuda alias Shahin, and one Montu.
On January 16, 2020, the investigating officer of the case, Police Bureau of Investigation inspector Rafiqul Islam, filed a charge sheet against four people in court.
After long 34 years of Sagira Morshed murder, PBI revealed cause of the murder and is set to press charges against four accused in the case.
Sagira, aged 34, was shot dead in broad daylight on July 25, 1989. She was going to Viqarunnisa Noon School on the capital’s Bailey Road by a rickshaw to pick up her daughter Saharat.
