25 women journos, politicians get certificates from Democracy Int'l Democracy International has been working in Bangladesh for over a decade, focusing on enhancing women's political participation, representation, and overall empowerment.

Democracy International has awarded certificates to 25 women journalists and politicians who successfully completed a training program focused on safer digital platform usage.

This initiative, supported by tech giant Meta, saw participation from women journalists representing 17 media outlets and politicians from Awami League, BNP, and Jatiya Party, said a press release.

The participants engaged in a rigorous curriculum consisting of a 3-day residential workshop and a 10-day online course. Topics covered included the role of mass media in the digital age, leveraging digital tools for women's empowerment, identifying misinformation and disinformation, techniques for information verification, social media policy guidelines, and safe information usage through digital channels.

Upon successful completion of the course, certificates were awarded by Dana L. Olds, Chief of Party at Democracy International.

Reflecting on the training, Rabeya Baby, a journalist from Daily Ittefaq, expressed appreciation for the practical digital safety techniques learned during the workshop.

Antara Das Pritha, Secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League's central committee, expressed her commitment to sharing the knowledge gained with party leaders and workers to ensure safer social media practices. Similarly, Jatiya Party leader Shahida Rahman and Mahmuda Habiba, a member of BNP's media cell and Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Jatiyotabadi Krishak Dal, highlighted the value of the training in enhancing their fact-checking skills and networking opportunities with fellow journalists.

Democracy International has been working in Bangladesh for over a decade, focusing on enhancing women's political participation, representation, and overall empowerment. The organization collaborates with leaders from various political parties at all levels to facilitate capacity building through diverse training initiatives.
