IOM DG Amy Pope arrives in Dhaka on 5-day visit

Director General (DG) of United Nations International Organization of Migration (IOM) Amy Pope arrived in Dhaka today (May 5).

IOM Bangladesh mission chief Abdusattor Esoev and foreign ministry officials welcomed Amy at Dhaka airport at 12:00 pm.

According to the Ministry of Foreign affairs sources, Amy Pope will visit Bangladesh till May 9. 

IOM Director General during her stay in Bangladesh will visit Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar.

It is known that the heads of various United Nations organizations will visit Dhaka on the occasion of 50 years of relations. The visit begins with IOM Director General Amy Pope.

Diplomatic sources said Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), will visit Dhaka in the middle of this month.

Apart from this, Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka at the end of this month.

During Pope’s the visit to Dhaka, she will make courtesy calls on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other government bodies. She will also hold a meeting with Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Minister Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury.
