3 electrocuted in Dhaka during cyclone

At least three people, including a girl, were electrocuted in separate incidents in the capital on Monday (May 28) night during cyclone Remal.

The deceased was identified as Liza Akhtar, 16, daughter of Md Siraj Khan of Noakhali's Charjabbar upazila, Rakib, 25, and Moriam Begum, 45, both from Khilgaon Thana area.

According to police, Liza, who was residing in the capital's Jatrabari area, was electrocuted after she touched a tin around the house and fell unconscious. She was immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical, but died before they arrived at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Rakib was electrocuted in Khilgaon's Taltola while charging his battery-powered rickshaw around 11pm.

Moriam Begum was electrocuted when she was walking through water in the Shipahibag area of Khilgaon. Later, when Moriam was taken to the hospital the on-duty doctors declared her dead.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost inspector Bachchu Miah confirmed the matter.
