As the campaign for the third phase of the Upazila Parishad elections ended last midnight, the Election Commission (EC) can now cancel candidature if any violation of electoral rules is found.
Meanwhile, some 300 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) platoons have been deployed across the country ahead of the Upazila polls to maintain law and order.
EC’s Deputy Secretary of the Election Management Branch, Atizar Rahman said according to law, campaigning for upazila elections must be completed 32 hours before the start of polling.
Voting will begin on May 29 at 8 am. Accordingly, no further promotion can be run after 12 midnight on Monday (May 27), he said.
He also said BGB will work as a mobile and striking force to maintain peace and order in the electoral areas from May 27 to May 31.
Earlier, during the 2nd phase of Upazila election, 457 BGB troops were deployed and in the 1st phase, a total of 418 troops were deployed.
