PM Hasina to visit China on 8-11 July: Foreign minister

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit China on 8-11 July to enhance trade and security related issues between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud told journalists after emerging from a meeting with Liu Jianshao, minister of the International Department of China Communist Party, held at a hotel in Dhaka on Monday.

“China plays an important role in many areas of development. We expect significant progress during the prime minister’s China visit. We are eagerly looking forward to this tour,” said the foreign minister.

Claiming China as Bangladesh’s development and trade partner, Hasan said Bangladesh exports goods worth $1 billion to China while imports worth $13 billion from the country.

“We discussed ways of reducing the trade gap between the two countries during the meeting,” said the foreign minister.

While talking to the newsmen, Liu Jianshao said that the friendly relationship between the two countries would be strengthened through Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to China.

Some agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) will be inked between Beijing and Dhaka during the tour, said Liu Jianshao.

“I hope that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would visit China by the next two weeks. We are waiting for this as both countries are working to make the tour fruitful,” he said.
