The prime accused of the nine-year-old Tamim Iqbal murder has been arrested by Narayanganj district police.

Additional Superintendent of Police (SP, Crime and Operations) Chailau Marma disclosed the matter in a press conference held at the District Police Superintendent's office on Monday (July 1).

Police at the conference said the arrestee was identified as Munna. 

SP said that on June 29, Tamim, son of Taib Ali, left home for the nearby ground to play, but as the evening approached, the kid did not return home.

On June 30 morning, locals first discovered naked body of the Tamim in room number four on the second floor of the abandoned two-storied building located on the west side of the SRB brick kiln, adjacent to Golakandail intersection under Rupganj police station.

After locals notified the incident to 999, the police of Bhulta outpost under Rupganj police station arrived at the scene and sent the body to Narayanganj Victoria General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Later, the police arrested Munna, under juvenile crime, after investigating footage of various CCTV cameras around the incident site, said SP.

According to police, “After primary interrogation Munna confessed saying tamim was taken to the building by luring him to play football to satisfy perverse sexual desire. Tamim was undressed and forcefully violated through anus.”

After this incident, when Tamim said that he would inform his parents regarding the incident, Munna immediately strangled Tamim's throat and left the body in that room to hide it.
